The Indira apartments at the Carmicheal road is one of the oldest residential properties located in the prestigious locality of South Mumbai. This area has a population density of almost 750 persons per hectare and today has several new towers coming at an unimaginable speed catering to the several demands of the locality. The property which was recently renovated has a 100 year old well which has been supplying to the enormous demand for domestic water of the society of forty apartments. The apartment was built in record time in the eighties during the Indira Gandhi regime. The site still has the old remnants of a palatial house built in massive stone with exquisite carvings. The society has a beautiful area reserved for recreation. The landscape design for the site had to take into consideration the regular need for outdoor recreation for all the age groups at the same time accommodate the periodical gatherings of the members on specific occasions at the same time. The landscape design also respects the archeological significance of the palace remnants.
